Suzanne Vaillancourt

Suzanne creates stunning clothing pieces that are not only beautiful works of art, but also keep the earth in mind. Each piece is crafted locally from organic materials and dyed with natural plant sources.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Suzanne designs and manufactures a line of clothing made from organic fabrics in Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario.

Her clothes are tailor-made to be comfortable and fashionable. She then uses natural plant dyes to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Suzanne has been working with organic plant dyes for the last ten years. She has studied with various dyers in Ontario and BC. She has attended multiple workshops on indigo, plant dyeing, and eco-printing. She also collects a lot of information on dyeing from books and fellow enthusiasts.

There is so much to learn about plants, flowers, and local dyes. She collects her own goldenrod, sumac, and black walnut to make her own dyes. Her research has led her to develop original plant paints that she uses for eco-printing. Eco-printing is the action of steaming leaves, flowers, and foliage directly onto the fabric.

Suzanne offers workshops in indigo and plant dyeing. She loves to teach what she knows because it deepens her own knowledge, and she learns so much from her students.
