This scenic Uxbridge Studio Tour route takes you from the shores of Chalk Lake through beautiful North Durham countryside and into studios where artists interpret the landscape through vibrant colour, atmospheric watercolour, plein-air painting and mixed media.

With a scenic drive, lunch at The Second Wedge Brewing Co. and six studios to explore, this September day trip is as much about enjoying the journey as the destination. The Uxbridge Studio Tour takes place September 19 & 20, 2026, about an hour northeast of Toronto. Studios are open Saturday 10 am–6 pm and Sunday 10 am–5 pm.

There may be no better way to explore landscape art than by spending the day travelling through one.
This route pairs some of the Uxbridge Studio Tour's landscape artists with a beautiful drive through the countryside surrounding Uxbridge. Pay attention to how each artist approaches the subject differently — through colour, light, atmosphere, detail, materials and painting style.
Then, between studios, look out the window.
You may find yourself noticing the shape of a tree, the colour of a field, reflections on water or the way September light falls across the countryside just a little differently.

STUDIO 4 | JUDY BEAR
There really couldn't be a better place to begin.
Judy Bear's lakeside home, studio and gallery sit on the shores of beautiful Chalk Lake, surrounded by water, trees and wetlands — the natural environment that has long inspired her work.
Landscape artist Judy Bear creates vibrant paintings that combine traditional landscape painting with a distinctly contemporary perspective. Look for her use of colour and the way she interprets water, trees, wetlands and the constantly changing world around her.
Judy is joined by celebrated ceramic artist Bill Reddick, whose exquisite hand-thrown porcelain provides a beautiful contrast in both medium and form.
Take some time here. Look at Judy's landscapes, then look at the landscape surrounding the studio.
You'll be doing a lot of that today.
Take the Scenic Route
Now the gallery walls give way to the real thing.
Leave Chalk Lake behind and head north through the countryside toward Sunderland. This is one of those stretches where getting from one studio to another is part of the experience.
Fields, forests, farms, old rural buildings and big September skies unfold along the way. Don't rush it. Enjoy the drive, stay attentive to changing road and weather conditions, and leave the sightseeing to your passengers while the driver keeps their attention safely on the road.
Your next studio offers another way of seeing the landscape entirely.
STUDIO 20 | CARMEL BRENNAN
At Carmel Brennan's Sunderland studio, you'll discover four artists working in wonderfully different ways.
For this landscape adventure, look especially for Carmel Brennan's moody photography and David Greaves' atmospheric watercolours — two very different ways of capturing a sense of place.
Carmel uses photography to find drama in the landscape, drawing your eye to light, shadow, weather and fleeting moments. David's fluid watercolours capture landscapes, seascapes and disappearing rural buildings with an entirely different softness and atmosphere.

They're joined by painter Lynda Cunningham and woodworker Craig Telfer, giving you even more to discover before getting back on the road.
And after all that looking? It's time for lunch.

STUDIO 12 | MIKE WILKINS
Studio 12 brings together four artists and a fascinating mix of materials.
Host artist Mike Wilkins transforms reclaimed wood, salvaged steel and machinery into distinctive furniture and sculptural pieces. He's joined by Karin Silverstone, Tamara Williamson and glass artist Sarah Porter.
On this particular adventure, spend some extra time with Karin Silverstone's work.
Rather than approaching landscape as a conventional painted view, Karin works primarily in pencil on salvaged plastered lath, exploring ideas of dormancy, regrowth and conservation.
It's landscape viewed through another lens; one concerned not simply with what the natural world looks like, but with its cycles, fragility and renewal.
From here, leave town behind again. More country roads and more landscapes await.
STUDIO 2 | RASHMI BAIRD
At this peaceful rural studio, Rashmi Baird creates etchings and found-object sculptures exploring memory, myth, ritual and transformation.
She's joined by plein-air landscape painter LeeAnna Deringer, whose work asks us to slow down and reconnect with the natural world.
Plein-air painting means heading outside and working directly in the landscape, responding to changing light, weather, colour and atmosphere as they happen. LeeAnna's landscapes reward that same kind of careful observation, encouraging you to notice the details and living beauty of the world around you.
After spending the day travelling these country roads, that idea may be starting to feel particularly appropriate.
And you're not finished yet.
STUDIO 3 | HANNEKE KOONSTRA
What better place to bring this landscape journey toward its conclusion than a studio surrounded by acres of protected forest?
Painter and mixed-media artist Hanneke Koonstra creates bright, colourful works inspired by nature, her travels and the landscape surrounding her Uxbridge property. Working across watercolour, acrylic, oil and other media, Hanneke gives you another opportunity to see how both the choice of medium and the artist's individual style can completely change our experience of a landscape.
She's joined by Kade Bolger, creating turned and hand-carved wood pieces; Catharina Goldnau, whose richly textured ceramics draw inspiration from nature; Berna Kilic, creating colourful lampwork glass beads, jewellery and small sculptures; and Suzanne Vaillancourt.
Take your time here. Wander. Look at the work. Look at the forest.
And if you've managed not to linger quite as long as we suspect you will, there's one more landscape artist waiting.
BONUS STOP | STUDIO 1 — COLIN WHITEBREAD
Check the time. If there's enough left in your Studio Tour day, continue to Studio 1 and finish with an explosion of colour.
Colin Whitebread uses bold design, energetic colour and mixed media to create his own distinctive interpretation of the world around him. After a day of atmospheric watercolour, plein-air observation, contemporary landscape and nature-inspired work, Colin provides a joyful final reminder that landscape doesn't have to be represented literally to communicate a powerful sense of place.
He's joined by Susan Whitebread, whose whimsical mixed-media pieces transform reclaimed materials; Gordon Reidt, creating one-of-a-kind stone sculpture; and Kirsty Naray, with colourful handcrafted glass beads, jewellery and fibre work.
Even the Whitebread home and garden become part of the creative experience.
