What happens when the words of an acclaimed nature writer meet the extraordinary artwork of an award-winning illustrator? A celebration of birds, the natural world and the power of creativity.
Sunday, October 25 at Wooden Sticks Golf Club, Uxbridge
This Sunday, October 25, Blue Heron Books is bringing British artist and illustrator Jackie Morris to Uxbridge for a special afternoon celebrating The Book of Birds, her latest collaboration with celebrated nature writer Robert Macfarlane.
Adding a local creative connection to the event, Fly Freeman, sculptor and long-time Uxbridge Studio Tour artist, will be interviewing Jackie Morris about her work, her creative process and her collaboration with writer Robert Macfarlane. It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear more about the ideas and inspiration behind The Book of Birds from the artist herself.
Macfarlane is known for his lyrical writing about nature, landscapes and our relationship with the world around us. His acclaimed books include The Wild Places, The Old Ways and Underland. Together, he and Morris have created three remarkable books: The Lost Words, The Lost Spells and now The Book of Birds.

The Book of Birds
Their latest collaboration brings together Macfarlane’s evocative writing and Morris’s beautiful paintings to celebrate 49 bird species. More than a traditional field guide, The Book of Birds invites us to look beyond identifying birds and discover a deeper connection with the lives, habits and wonder of these remarkable creatures.
The afternoon promises something special for both art lovers and bird enthusiasts. Jackie will paint live, and a real bird of prey will be joining the event, giving her the opportunity to sketch this remarkable visitor.
Taking place at Wooden Sticks Golf Club, the event includes a copy of The Book of Birds, along with tea and scones; a lovely way to spend an autumn afternoon immersed in art, nature and conversation.
Whether you're passionate about birds, inspired by beautiful artwork, love a good book or simply enjoy discovering something new, this sounds like a special afternoon not to miss!
