ABOUT THE ARTIST
Monique Van Wel is an award-winning gold-silversmith and custom jewellery designer, specializing in one-of-a-kind designs and Re-designing your jewellery. Monique’s passion for fluid lines has provided great inspiration for her designs, and she is comfortable working with many mediums, including sterling silver, gold, diamonds, gemstones and pearls.
Originally from the Netherlands, Monique began her 4-year gold-silversmithing studies in 1994 in Schoonhoven, the silver-city of the Netherlands.
A full scholarship from the Metal Guild in Utrecht allowed Monique to serve her apprenticeship year as part of the well-recognized P.R. Haig Jewellers, Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA.
During her apprenticeship, Monique refined her gold-silversmithing and designing skills. Her technical ingenuity won her an award in the Great Michigan State Jeweller’s Contest.
Since arriving in Canada (2000), Monique has accepted a substantial body of commissioned custom work as a result of her participation in Galleries, art shows, and the Annual Studio Tour of Uxbridge, as well as from personal recommendations.
Monique enjoys working with her twig line and other limited production collections, but her passion truly comes alive when she is creating something that has deep personal meaning for an individual. It is her greatest pleasure to work one on one with her clients creating custom pieces, each with their own story. Re-designing older jewels are often the start of a new custom design journey.
A true artist, loving wife and mother, Monique lives and works in her home in the countryside with a view of the rolling hills from her studio, just outside of the Art Community of Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada, with her husband, children and dog.

This year, Monique will be displaying her work at the stunning studio/gallery of Lynn Bishop and Tom Loach alongside fellow guest artist Daniel Colby.
