Rebecca van Gennip
Rebecca van Gennip creates evocative oil paintings that blend contemporary emotion with the timeless influence of Dutch masterworks, exploring grief, resilience, and personal history through intimate interiors and still-life.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rebecca van Gennip (b. 2001) is a Canadian oil painter and art instructor based in Goodwood, Ontario. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree from Queen’s University, majoring in Visual Art with a minor in Art History.
Rebecca has exhibited at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Georgina Studio Tour, Preston Gallery, and Uxbridge Art in the Park, with several works held in the Art Gallery of Georgina’s permanent collection. Formerly represented by the Elaine Fleck Gallery in Toronto, she is now focused on her evolving independent practice.
Her work explores themes of grief, vulnerability, generational trauma, and emotional resilience through intimate interior scenes and still-life paintings. Inspired by seventeenth-century Dutch painters and her Dutch heritage, Rebecca reimagines traditional domestic interiors and rich colour palettes through a contemporary lens.
