Mike Wilkins
Mike Wilkins brings together the weathered beauty of salvaged materials and the clean lines of modern design, crafting distinctive pieces that reflect both sustainability and artistic vision.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mike Wilkins is a self-taught artist and designer based in Uxbridge, Ontario, known for his remarkable ability to turn salvaged materials into striking pieces of functional and sculptural art.
What began as a practical approach, making things work with whatever was available, gradually evolved into a creative philosophy.
Utilizing the tools of his day-to-day work - welding, cutting, grinding, and reshaping - Mike developed a passion for reimagining discarded materials. His process is intuitive and hands-on, rooted in the belief that beauty can emerge from the overlooked and the abandoned.
His inspiration often begins with a single object: a rusted piece of scrap metal, a worn-out tool, or forgotten machinery. Where others see junk, Mike sees potential.
These fragments take shape in his imagination long before they become tangible, emerging as inventive furniture or evocative artworks that seamlessly fuse industrial edge with artistic finesse.
Since relocating to Uxbridge in 2007, Mike has become deeply embedded in the local arts scene. His involvement in the Uxbridge Studio Tour has played a pivotal role in that journey, offering both creative exchange and meaningful community.
A proud participant since 2016, Mike describes his experience with the tour as “an honour and a joy,” a testament to his commitment to creativity, collaboration, and the shared celebration of artistic expression.
