The 34th Annual Uxbridge Studio tour is less than ONE WEEK away! I'm a jewellery artist and it's been a productive summer. As I contemplate the upcoming weekend, I'm struck by the impact the tour has had on my life.
Uxbridge purse designer and creator Nancy Newman's interest in textiles "started with the Feminist Movement in the 70's, where attention was being paid to what was disparagingly called 'Women's Work', which was anything to do with textiles". We are delighted to feature Nancy along with her talented guest artist Mary Philpott at Studio 10 of the 2019 tour.
People always ask how did you become a blacksmith. Did you apprentice for someone? Was your father in the trade? Have you seen “Forged In Fire”? As far as I can find no one related to me was involved with forging or metalwork in any way. Although it feels at times like there was some prior knowledge somehow.
