Lynda Cunningham
The animals that Lynda has raised and the barns that house them often find their way into her paintings and sculptures. Lynda's artwork is predominantly oil paintings on canvas, but she also enjoys chalk pastel and hand-built farm animals from clay.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
When Lynda was a young child, her love of animals and art was clearly apparent. Early days were spent drawing and painting, and animals were the main subject. As a young girl growing p in Scarborough she longed to own a horse of her own.
Moving to the Durham region in her teens made her dream of owning a horse a reality, and they have been her constant companions ever since.
Family life and farm life merged in Sunderland where her children and a myriad of animals were raised on a small rural property. Lynda’s animals and her barn became a constant theme in her art. A team of Clydesdales joined the sheep, goats, donkeys and chickens that provided constant inspiration for her work.
While painting in oils makes up the majority of this self-taught artist's work, she also enjoys soft pastels and clay and is expanding into larger sculptural pieces.
In 2025, Lynda moved to a charming riverfront property on the Indian River. She has been incorporating the ever-changing beauty of the river into her work. While life on her small farm is dearly missed, she is enjoying exploring her new surroundings and recognizing the simple beauty in this new area. Her connection to her animals is still.
As strong as it was in her youth. She shares her riverside home with two dogs, a cat a Clydesdale mare and a pony named Timmie.

This year, Lynda will be showing her work at the studio of painter and photographer Carmel Brennan, along with fellow guest artists Craig Telfer and David Greaves.
