Karin Silverstone
Working primarily with pencil on plastered lath salvaged from local renovations, Karin Silverstone weaves themes of dormancy, regrowth, and conservation into her art.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Silverstone graduated from the University of Guelph in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts, and is a retired high-school art teacher and works in her home studio in Guelph.
The imagery of open fields, lakes and isolated trees reflects her past growing up in Bruce County and serves to stir up memories, with the hopes of reminding the viewer both of the importance of respecting our natural environments and also cherishing our past experiences in Nature.
The recycling of found materials, notably lath from local renovations, further supports her interest in the environment. These pencil drawings on an acrylic base upon plaster are fixed with an archival spray and are framed in lath.
She has participated in many exhibitions, including numerous Artist Project shows in Toronto, several Muskoka Arts & Crafts summer shows, as well as exhibits at numerous galleries in southwestern Ontario
