Kade Bolger
In the tradition of his grandfather, Kade Bolger creates unique and beautiful wood objects using a wood lathe and hand carving tools.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kade Bolger, a designer and wood sculptor, is mastering sculptural carving techniques while expanding his artistic vision.
His distinctive style emphasizes the story each piece of wood tells. Kade carefully examines the unique features of every piece, then plans a path to enhance these natural characteristics, bringing them to life through functional sculptural art.
Kade’s journey into woodworking began with his Irish grandfather, who introduced him to carving. Inspired by the beauty of wooden sculptures, Kade took his first steps toward mastering the craft by attending wood lathe sessions in 2011 and connecting with local Master Woodturners.
He further honed his skills through private lessons with Master Woodturners in Ireland (2016) and the United Kingdom (2018). Kade’s dedication has earned him numerous prestigious awards from the Woodturners Guild of Ontario, including honors in the Intermediate (2015), Advanced (2016), Masters (2016, 2018), and Open (2017) categories. His piece Incursion (2016), a live-edge side-grain walnut wing bowl, was featured as the cover image for the World of Woodturning website, while ! Exclamation (2016), a live-edge end-grain juniper bowl, graced the cover of the Woodturners Guild of Ontario website.
In October 2018, Kade’s Le Feu (2018), a birch veneer woodturned box, was selected for the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB) Travelling Gallery. This exhibition showcased 50 woodturned art objects across the European Union and the UK from 2018 to 2020.
In 2022, Kade returned to the AWGB Symposium, where his piece Call it Mona—crafted from tulip poplar and topped with an aluminum finial—was chosen for the 2022-2024 Travelling Gallery. In 2024, Kade's Incursion was also selected for the AWGB Travelling Gallery, where it will be showcased throughout the U.K. over the next two years.
Kade’s work has also been featured in notable exhibitions. In 2020, the Wood Symphony Gallery accepted his Sweet Orange box for the Inside the Box exhibition, and Butterfly was showcased in The Art of Giving. In 2021, his pieces Lancelot and Kingdom were part of the Inside the Box exhibition, while Enigma, Cauldron by Candlelight, and Twisted Trinity appeared in Small Treasures. In 2022, his work Aftermath was featured in Small Treasures.
In 2024, one of Kade's pieces, Sweet Saskatoon, was acquired by the prestigious Daniels Collection, a renowned art gallery in the U.K.
Kade regularly exhibits his work at studio tours and art shows. One of his greatest honors in recent years has been the opportunity to teach and demonstrate for his mentors and peers in local and international woodturning guilds. Kade aspires to be recognized as a distinguished craftsman, and in 2024, he was selected as a demonstrator for the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB) International Woodturning Seminar.
