The Botanical Illustration program exposed me to colored pencil (see Rhododendron drawing in coloured pencil), pen and ink (see birch bark drawing in pen and ink) as well as water colour. Each new medium stretched my brain in new ways to my surprise and delight.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
The colours of a wild Iris captured Bert Liverance's imagination twenty years ago. He's been painting big brightly coloured flowers ever since.
Bert was first exposed to oil painting in university and loved the rich creamy texture of the medium and vibrancy of the images that oil on canvas produced.
He began as a self-taught artist, but the more he painted, the hungrier he became for knowledge and exposure to new mediums.
While living in Portland, Oregon Bert took a number of courses at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. He has just completed a degree in Botanical Illustration from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.
Bert and his wife moved to Uxbridge six years ago to escape the hustle and bustle of Toronto. Their home is on an idyllic twenty-three acres with a pond, wetlands and a beautiful studio with great north light. "It’s like sitting in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary"!
Over the years Bert's enjoyed the many benefits of the Uxbridge arts community – visiting other artists during the studio tour and participating in the Township’s juried exhibition. "It's always a thrill and honour to be asked by this talented group of artists to join the studio tour".
"I’ve been blessed with a creative spirit and am happiest painting, drawing or doing something creative". Brightly colored subjects continue to inspire Bert and capture his creative imagination. He's excited to share them with you.
