ABOUT THE ARTIST
Max Kalinowski is a painter and photographer with over 40 years of experience. "I started painting in 1999. My primary interest in the art is the deconstruction of the environment"
Photography was instrumental in the structural sense of observing political, social and economic changes. It had a profound influence on Max's creative process. Max says that "Music, in particular classical music, has played a vital role in expressing my emotions "
Max has studied art with Lila Lewis at the Fleming Institute.
"My medium primarily is acrylic on canvas and I also paint on wood. Photography is something that I’m recently returning to my artistic resume"
Max's influences derived from the New York schools – in particular the fifties and sixties when Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Kastner and few others were prominent.
"I’m European born in the post-war society". He studied history in Poland at the Nicolaus Copernicus University. "I had a dissident attitude towards communism and in general to totalitarian political systems. My art is an observation on social and economic injustice which is the dominant force in my art". Changes in the urban environment are important influences in his work.
"In the last 17 years of my painting I'm happy to say that I sold many of my paintings to private collectors in Germany, the Netherlands, England , US and Canada.".
