My work is continually evolving towards more abstract art due to the use of harder stones where adding detail can sometimes be more challenging.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gordon Reidt began his artistic career in 1968 as a self-taught photographer. His love for nature has now evolved into producing one-of–a-kind stone art.
As a stone artist, Gordon considers himself self-taught with no formal training. Having said that, he attended advanced sculpture workshops at the Haliburton School for the Arts, ZIMART Program workshops (with Zimbabwe sculptors) and, most recently studying Jade carving in BC with Jade Artist Deborah Wilson.
Gordon now teaches sculpture with 7 students.
His association with the Uxbridge community began by showing his artwork in the Green Goose Gallery in 2008. More recently, he has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Uxbridge Studio Tour artistic community starting back in 2008.
Out of his love of nature and the desire to freely express himself, Gordon became a photographic artist many years ago which proves valuable today when photographing sculptures for promotional materials. "The freedom of expression appeals in both mediums by being able to portray nature in ways people normally do not tend to see it".
Gordon's work is continually evolving towards more abstract art due to the use of harder stones where adding detail can sometimes be more challenging.
Nature continues to be his inspiration in both photography and sculpture. The work of Michelangelo and E. B. Cox, a local sculptor, inspire him as well. Gordon continues to push himself to grow as an artist.
