ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have always enjoyed capturing a moment in time in my paintings and love to add in unexpected shifts of colour and brush stroke. My aim is to create an emotional connection or instil a feeling of the viewer being able to reach out and touch or be present in that same moment. I have a deep passion for painting and aspire to bring joy into other people’s lives with my work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Coming from a family of Artisans with varying passions from artists to carpenters, master bakers to stained glass craftsmen, Debra Rowland's love and appreciation of image, pattern and form manifested from a young age.
Debra was born in England and spent her childhood and early married life in North Wales, she later moved with her family to Australia and again to Canada taking opportunities to expand her creative palette and subjects through cultural influences, teachings, traditions and landscapes from around the world.
Working as an Artist and Instructor for nearly 30 years with a B.A. (Hons) Illustration, Debra enjoys applying her traditional style to build new and creative techniques. Through this free spirited approach to her strict and traditional training, Debra creates a space for her students to find their true style whilst observing formal teaching techniques.
