ARTIST'S STATEMENT

  • After a 30 year journey, I have finally come to a simple philosophy when working with clay. I enjoy what I do and do the best I can – that is enough.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Della Cavanagh is a well-known Canadian clay and sculptural artist specializing in award winning, hand-made, one of a kind animal themed pottery.

She has been making clay art from her home studio in Uxbridge, Ontario for more than 30 years where, surrounded by nature, she is inspired by the teeming life that lives in and around the lush countryside she calls home. “Animals have always been an expressive gesture of what I do,” Della says.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan – Canada’s 16th largest city – After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Della moved to the province of Ontario in the early seventies where she was drawn into the world of pottery and ceramics when she began taking classes at Cedar Ridge Studio.

With her creative use of the potter’s wheel, Original Pottery by Della is crafted in both stoneware and porcelain and decorated with glazes applied personally by the artist, making each piece unique.

Her work is always in high demand at juried shows she attends and all pieces are individually signed by the artist.

The fantastic rural studio of Della Cavanagh is located just west of Uxbridge. Enjoy the fall colours as you head to this wonderful stop. For details on where Della Cavanagh's studio is located, and her list of guest artists for this year's tour visit her Studio Page
