Lynne McIlvride – Mixed Media
Two and three-dimensional paintings, huge panoramas, original prints: a highly saturated experience. Prepare to be blown away.
I have been an artist since I was 4 years old but was exposed to other artists while getting a simple BFA from York University sometime in the 80’s. I have lived in this area for over 40 years and have been on the tour from the second year of its existence when studio tours were an unusual and curious thing.
My art has always been expressive, autobiographical, direct, symbolic. I use whatever media are around in whatever combination seems right. Art-making has been a way of processing my surroundings, world events, personal disasters; a way of expressing strong emotion and my faith with a deliberate directness that is sometimes raw and constantly changing. Stick with me: I promise to disappoint you.
I am inspired by travel, worship and of course, colour.
Shelly Fowler – Mixed Media
My mother was an artist and we did many projects together as far back as I can remember. Much of my childhood was spent in my grandfather’s fabric and button store and I learned to sew at an early age. I graduated from the Honour Fine Art program at University of Toronto, taking all of the available studio courses, and continue to learn. Through these many years, I have taught drawing and painting and textile art privately and at workshops.
Lynne McIlvride and I have been friends for many years and have had two joint exhibitions.
I have always wanted to make art since I was a little girl. It’s a way of seeing the world and I can’t imagine doing anything else except making music, which I have also done. Inspiration is everywhere. The joy and the mystery is giving it physical form.
